Tile Refinishing

Should You Replace or Refinish Your Bathroom Tile?

If you’re unhappy with what you see when you look around your bathroom, it may be time to consider updating your space. Your bathroom should be a sanctuary, a getaway from the stresses of everyday life. But if outdated, ugly, or damaged tile is stopping you from relaxing, it’s time to call in the experts at Virginia Restoration Services. But you may be wondering, should I replace the tile or just refinish it? Well, lucky for you, we do both! Let us break it down for you below so you can make an educated decision and make your bathroom dreams come true.

Tile Refinishing

Your first step is going to be taking stock of your tile situation. If your tile and grout are in good shape and you don’t have loose tiles, you may want to consider refinishing instead of replacing. Assuming that the tile and the grout are in good shape, the dynamic of the entire room will change with a tile refinish. When the finish is done properly, you can expect 15+ years out of it before it will need to be refinished again. Additionally, there are many benefits to refinishing. It will save you time, money, and stress! Unlike tile replacement, it only takes a day or two to refinish tile, and the tile is ready for use within 24 hours.

Tile Replacement

In some cases, tile replacement may be necessary. For example, if the tile is loose and/or falling off the wall, there is a good chance that the tile is not supported to the correct backer board. If you suspect your tile is not savable, remove one of the loose tiles gently and check to see if there is a backer board behind it. If not, it’s best to remove the tile and start from scratch. But this time, do it correctly with backer board and a waterproof membrane. Situations like this would require the tile to be replaced. It is a more expensive option, but doing it correctly will save you more money in the long run.
